Keeping business and household money clear

Practical knowledge

← Back to learning centre
01

A busy shop can make cash appear available even when it is needed for tomorrow’s stock. A separate business record helps you see what belongs to the business and what you have taken home.

02

Record opening cash, sales received, purchases, operating expenses and personal withdrawals. Include digital receipts as well as cash. You can begin with a notebook; software is not essential.

03

At closing time, compare the record with the cash you hold and payments actually credited. Investigate differences before treating the balance as profit. Sales, cash received and profit are different measures.

04

A practical habit: choose a regular time to review the record and keep bills together. These are educational suggestions, not a Rinsetu accounting service or a prescribed training curriculum.
